Tortuguero’s canals, lagoons and rivers of great scenic beauty are characteristic and can be traveled by boats, canoes and kayaks to enjoy its wonderful landscape. In addition to the green turtle, three other species of turtles spawn on the park's beaches that offer their visitors an exhibition hall, information, drinking water, health services, paths and other services.
Tortuguero has a very humid tropical forest, due to the fact that it rains between 5000 and 6000 millimetres per year. These climatic conditions favour the existence of over 400 species of trees and around 2200 species of other plants, as well as more than 400 species of birds, 60 species of amphibians, 30 species of freshwater fish and different endangered mammals: tapirs, monkeys, ocelots, jaguars, manatees, sloth animals and others.
